STONES THAT TALK - A Guest Post by Thomas O. Mills

EDGAR CAYCE AND THE HIEROGLYPHICS

By Thomas O. Mills

The Hopi Indians are the only religion, race, or culture that requires the use of hieroglyphics, “sacred rock carvings” or petroglyph, “stone carved or painted symbols on rocks” on planet earth today. Many of my friends use the word hieroglyphic to describe the Egyptian carvings located in Egypt and the word petroglyph to describe the rock art chipped away on the dark colored stones all around the world.

The spirit Guardian named Maasaw (that brought the Hopi to this continent, after a great flood, and pinpointed the exact location where he wanted them to settle), explained to them that he wanted each clan to make four directional migrations before coming back to their common, permanent home at their balanced center or middle point I n Arizona. Each clan was to travel as far as they could go in each direction, north, south, east, and west, leaving their clan signature (hieroglyphics - petroglyphs)  carved on the rocks to identify themselves and prove that their migrations had taken place. This was the real purpose for many of the hieroglyphics - petroglyphs.

There were 31 clans present at Oraibi (rock on high ground) in 1932 when Mischa Titiev made his first trip to the Hopi village in Northeaster Arizona. Professor Leslie White led the field party of ethnologist to the oldest continuously occupied village in the Americaʼs, to study the characteristics and behavior of the Hopi People. Mischa would be back many times after that first visit, he had found his calling.

In 1941, he published his studies in a book called Old Oraibi, A Study of the Hopi Indians of Third Mesa and went on to become a professor of anthropology at the University of Michigan. He and his wife were married for a second time in the “Hopi Way” at the Hopi village in 1937 and he was so well liked that he was allowed to name many Hopi children. The title of his book, Old Oraibi, has been adopted by many to be the name of the Hopi village, Oraibi at the present time.

Titiev interviewed each of the 826 Hopiʼs living at the village of Oraibi and recorded their clan affiliation and marital status at that time. The individualʼs clan is passed down from mother to child and this is really the heart of Hopi society.

The Hopi believe that upon emerging onto this new world, people joined in groups to find their homeland. Along this journey, certain guardians, plants, animals, insects, planets, and objects, united with each group and helped them find their way. There are the Bear, Eagle, Kachina, Snake, Squash, Water, Sun, Spider and Sand clans to name a few.

The Hopi also believe this is the fourth time that Earths’ population has had to begin anew, and, if each time over 31 clans went in all four directions leaving their clan signature, this might explain the thousands of hieroglyphics - petroglyphs that are found around the world in Israel, Egypt, Africa, India, China, Europe, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas.

Recently a 3,400 year old leather shoe, and a perfectly preserved arrow, complete with a prayer feather, was found in Norway under the melting Arctic ice. Someone went as far north as he could go and left his most prized possessions to prove that he had been there where no rocks could be found to write on.

At the present time, hieroglyphics - petroglyphs are only carved by the young Hopi men who reach maturity and are initiated into their respective clans. Part of this ceremony is to walk to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and retrieve salt for their village, leaving their clan signature along the path. Other pueblo tribes (Zuni, Acoma, Taos, Santa Clara, and Luguna) made migrations and carved their clan signature in the distant past, but none are participating in this practice today, like the Hopi.

All of the Hopi clan migrations have ended many years ago. When these migrations were taking place hundreds of different Hopiʼs went in all four directions from the Hopi villages leaving their clan signature as instructed. Many large rocks located along these paths were covered with hieroglyphics -- petroglyphs: Newspaper State Historic Park to the northeast in Utah with over 3,000 carvings,
Petroglyph National Monument with over 17,000 carvings to the east near Albuquerque, New Mexico,

Hopi Clan Rock along the Salt Trail, to the west with over 5000 carvings

and Inscription Canyon near Barstow, California with over 1000 carvings,

and Chevelon and Clear Creek Canyon to the south with over 3000 + carvings.

Hieroglyphics and petroglyphs can be found on the American east and west coast and they are located as far north in Canada and as far south as you can travel in Chile and Argentina.

Three cliff dwellings, Keet Seel (Broken house), Betatakin (House built on a ledge) and Tsah Bii Kin (Inscription House) are covered with hieroglyphics - petroglyphs but were dedicated as Navajo National Monuments in 1909 even though the Navajos do not carve hieroglyphics - petroglyphs or build cliff dwellings. Navajos can not read the rocks that talk or tell the story as they say, but the Hopi elders can.

Their Guardian also prophesied that many individualʼs would forget the purpose of their migration and settled where life was easy instead of returning to Oraibi where life was going to be very hard for them. A good example of this might be the Islands of the Pacific, where there are hundreds of hieroglyphics -petroglyphs are carved in laval and rock walls on the islands of Tonga, Hawaii, Easter Island and New Zealand. Here they found the perfect climate, running water, seeds, fruit, rain, and fertile soil for their crops.

Many say that the hieroglyphics - petroglyphs found on these islands are very similar and prove that the Hawaiians traveled great distances but I think they are missing the big picture. Where did the Hawaiians come from and why would they carve anything on the rocks? This is the Hopi Water Clan symbol and it is found all across the Pacific.

It proves the Hopi water clan has traveled there, and left their mark just as they were instructed to do. Could a few red men and red women have stayed and started a new civilization where life was easy? I think so. Could the Guardian who gave these instructions have known that this would probably happen and that the earth would be repopulated in this manner? I believe so. Here he is in Saudi Arabia:

Hieroglyphics - petroglyphs are found in all shapes and sizes. Are not the Nazca lines in southern Peru really just huge hieroglyphics - petroglyphs of monkeys, birds, and people?

The Atacama Giant of Chile:

Someone really went out of their way to leave their clan signature at that location. The same lines and figures are found scratched in the desert floor 15 miles north of Blythe, California at a site called the Blythe Intaglios, where there are six huge figures in three locations.

I believe that many of the ancient temples located at Gaza in Egypt are really just hieroglyphics - petroglyphs built with stones so large that no one could move them – the stones were built to talk or carry a message from the past into the future.

In 1933, Edgar Cayce predicted that the Hall of Records would be found by someone at sunrise standing on a hill east of the Sphinx looking back towards the pyramids and it would be located under the right front paw of the Sphinx. This is his quote: this lies – as the sun rises from the waters -- as the line of the shadows (or light) falls between the paws of the Sphinx; that was set later as the sentinel or guard and which may not be entered from the connecting chambers from the Sphinx's right paw until the time has been fulfilled when the changes must be active in this sphere of man's experience. Then [it lies] between the Sphinx and the river. [378-16; Oct 29, 1933].

When I look at the pyramid complex from above with the Hopi Creation Story in mind, I see, hieroglyphics - petroglyphs. Figure 13.

If the hall of records was found underground in a pathway between the Mortuary Temple and the Sphinx Temple would it prove the Hopi Creation Story? I believe so.  I also believe that the underground chambers of KV-5 in the Valley of the Kings near  Tutankhamunʼs burial site represents the hieroglyphic - petroglyph of a male figure (the Nephew) mentioned in the Hopi Creation Story. Figure 14,

There is one clan that has never returned after their migration - the long-lost white brother. The Hopis call him Pahana (from the Hopi word pasu or salt water) and they are still expecting him to return from the east, across the ocean, at any time. Hopefully he will join in and complete their ceremonial cycle; finish their universal plan of migration; and prove their Creation story.

It might just be a coincidence that there are 32 Kivaʼs (ceremonial chambers) located in the ancient ruins of Pueblo Bonito in Chaco Canyon although no fire pits or large burial sites were ever found there. Could this be the location where all 32 clans are destined to meet and take part in a joint ceremony when the true Pahana returns? Only time will tell.
